So, wow, it's been 15 years. And yours truly is Not Actually Illegal in the Russian Federation (at least, not so far as I know and not yet).

But I'm still joining the Exodus to Dreamwidth because, well, fuck every last bit of that noise (also, fuck the ads, and maybe also fuck brad, while I'm at it...).

In other news, I learned enough of the API to fix the cross references in my journal to all point to Dreamwidth so that you can painlessly follow my various n-part series which might possibly be continuing; we'll see. (I may be sufficiently annoyed to change all of cross references on the LJ side as well, whee...)

Now I just need to turn off commenting on the LJ side (just c'mon over — or if you don't want to do the wholesale move, just create an account and claim your LJ OpenID (note that some of you who've already moved here still need to do that...)

so how do *you* do the turning off comment-posting on on your LJ? According to the FAQ, doing a global comments-disable supposedly makes all of the existing comments become hidden, but I can still see yours. Are you just turning comments off on individual posts, or are you doing something wacky with the API?

All new echoed posts are set to disallow replies in the crosspost from Dreamwidth. That's built in functionality in the Dreamwidth echoing service, and will let you throw a link over to the Dreamwidth version for commenting.

For old posts, I've set my global journal comments settings to "only friends can post comments" and "all comments are screened." And I think I threw on an ugly captcha just to make life harder.

I'm guessing there's a setting that I'm missing, because it didn't do that for this crosspost. I had to go over to LJ and turn off comments manually on that post. And then when I edited here, they got turned back on over there.

Go here and see if "Disable comments on crossposts made to other sites" is checked.

If it is, but comments on new crossposts are still being enabled, then idk.

I seem to be too lazy to bother to import my journal from LJ. Not sure if there's any point to the open id thing if I'm not importing. On the other hand eventually I might want to do it, cuz periodically I actually look at old posts when I'm trying to figure out what year we took a trip or something, so maybe I should do that.

Does the importer thing have an "end date" to set in the import? I've been x-posting my stuff, and don't want duplicates to show up.

the point of claiming the OpenID is so that all of your old comments on my DW-journal and others show up as being from you rather from than this Strange LJ-OpenID Person -- the claim merges those identities in DW Land, and you can do this completely independently of whether you bring the rest of your journal over.

... but also it does keep track of which DW entries were xposted back to LJ, so the import really ought to be smart enough to skip those. I'll admit I did my import before I'd posted anything on DW, so I don't know for certain. On the other hand,

1. if you try it, then we'll know
2. your DW journal has a grand total of maybe 9 xposted entries; so even in the worst case that they all get duplicated and you're having to delete them all and you're having to use the goddamn mouse to do it, it's still not going to take that long.
