Carmen

Georges Bizet
(premiered in Paris, 1875)

[Trigger warnings:  domestic violence, rape, animal cruelty]

Dramatis Personae

DON JOSÉ "nice guy" who is also the protagonist, for some reason
  CARMEN young woman from "Bohemia",
because heaven forbid anyone should try to
actually learn anything about the Roma
(hint: they're not actually from Bohemia)

  ESCAMILLO bullfighter guy
  MERCEDES friend of Carmen
  FIAT friend of Carmen

(plus a half dozen other people I'm just going to leave out. cope.)
and so it goes... )

I am so going to hell for this.
And, of course, this being [livejournal.com profile] emmacrew's favorite opera,
I get to sleep on the compost heap for the next month, probably.

N.B.:  This is the 2nd opera of a series. You may want to catch the first episode if you haven't already. Or not.

Dramatis Personae

  SIEGMUND Wotan's mortal bastard son
  SIEGLINDE Siegmund's twin bastard sister
HUNDING Mr. Sieglinde and owner of the all-important Hut
WOTAN (Odin) Head God Dude from previous opera
  BRÜNNHILDE a Valkyrie
FRICKA Mrs. Wotan, Goddess of Marriage from previous opera
  SIEGRUNE another Valkyrie
  WALTRAUTE yet another Valkyrie
  GRIMGERDE and another
  ROSSEWEISSE and another
SAURKRAUTMITWURSTE ... oh bother, I forget,
there are 9 of them, and they are all Very Loud, okay?

Act I

Scene One

[HUNDING's living room, which,
for some reason that is never fully explained,
has this tree growing in the middle of it.
 Whatever.

Outside, it is a dark and stormy night.
No, really. ... and so on )

Yes, I had to go do another one of these; it's probably worse than the the last one. You have been warned.

Dramatis Personae

WOGLINDE, WELLGUNDE, FLOSSHILDE Rhinemaidens (daughters of the River)
ALBERICH a dwarf (soon to be CEO and Chairman of the Board, Niebelheim)
WOTAN (Odin) Head God dude (complete with eyepatch, Spear, and ravens)
FRICKA his wife, Goddess of Marriage, Home, Knitting, and Tea Cozies
FREIA her sister, Goddess of Love, Fertility, and Leather Swimwear
DONNER (Thor) her brother, God of Thunder
FROH his brother, God of Rainbows (no, really)
  FASOLT, FAFNER the Giants
LOGE (Loki) God of Fire and General Mischief
MIME Alberich's brother and VP Advanced Technology
ERDA Goddess of the Earth, mother of, well, everything

The Act

(Yes, there's only one of these. Meaning no intermissions. Take your bathroom break now.)

Scene 1

[Orchestra begins with the longest Eb in Western music;
at least one horn player dies of asphyxiation before it's complete.
We then layer on the "Nature" motif and the "Rushing Water / Rhine" motif,
until finally the curtain opens and we see ...]

and so on... )

Yeah okay, I had to do this.

Apologies to [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda for vaguely stealing her format
(though you'll notice I decided not to call this "Lohengrin in 15 minutes").

And apologies to everyone else for, well, everything...

Act I

Scene 1

[Brabant castle. TOWNSPEOPLE are arguing.]

ORANGE-CLAD TOWNSPEOPLE:
You suck!

RED-CLAD TOWNSPEOPLE:
No, you suck!

GUY WEARING RED+ORANGE STRIPEY THING:
Hey everybody, it's The King!

[music shifts around to C major so that we can have a fanfare
on the valveless trumpets. The KING enters.]

and it gets worse from here... )
