The party platform will continue to be toilet paper so long as it's not binding on any candidates (and I'm not sure it should be binding anyway). About all it can do is provide controversy both inside and outside the party, keeping Democrats arguing with each other and providing everyone else with smear-fodder when particularly embarrassing planks make it into the document.

Still, maybe you should get a copy of the Republican platform. If anything deserved to be shat on more than the Democratic party platform, it's whatever insanity the GOP is signing off on each election cycle.
