the right word
Jun. 29th, 2006 12:15 amIt is probably sacrilege that I be attempting to improve on these classic scenes. Nevertheless:
Ok, I'm done now.
- DECKER:
- Mr. Spock, I am officially notifying you
that I am exercising my option under regulations
as a Starfleet Commodore, that I am
assuming command of the Enterprise. - SPOCK:
- You have the right to do so, but I would advise against it.
- DECKER:
- That thing must be destroyed.
- SPOCK:
- You tried to destroy it once before, Commodore.
The result was a wrecked ship and a dead crew. - DECKER:
- I made a mistake then. We were too far away.
This time I'm going to hit it with full phasers at point blank range. - SPOCK:
- Sensors show the object's hull is solid meconium.
A single ship cannot combat it. - DECKER:
- Mr. Spock, that will be all.
- KIRK:
- Spock, listen. Maybe Matt Decker didn't die for nothing.
He had the right idea but not enough power to do it....
Am I correct in assuming that a fusion explosion of 97 megatons
will result if a starship impulse engine is overloaded? - SPOCK:
- No, sir. 97.835 megatons.
- KIRK:
- 97.835... Will it be powerful enough to destroy that thing out there?
- SPOCK:
- Negative, Captain, Its hull is pure meconium.
There is no known way of blasting through it. - KIRK:
- Not through it, Spock. From inside it! Will it be enough?
- SPOCK:
- Insufficient data. I shall try to take further sensor readings.
- KIRK:
- Do the best you can, and make it fast. ... Kirk to Scott.
- SCOTT:
- Here, sir. The damage control party just beamed back to the Enterprise.
- KIRK:
- Good. Scotty, can you set the ship's impulse engines to overload?
- SCOTT:
- Aye. The shape this thing's in, it's hard to keep her from blowin'.
- KIRK:
- I want you to rig a thirty second delayed detonation device
and rig it so that it can be blown from up here. - SCOTT:
- Aye, sir.
- KIRK:
- Set it and get up here as fast as you can
- SCOTT:
- Right away.
- SPOCK:
- Captain, the object's meconium hull makes
sensor readings of the inner mechanism impossible. - KIRK:
- Spock, you don't know?
- SPOCK:
- Correct.... Captain, you're getting dangerously close to the planet-killer.
- KIRK:
- I intend to get a lot closer. I'm gonna ram her right down that thing's throat.
- GAETA:
- Still staking out every waterhole in the desert.
- TIGH:
- Only this time it's a lake,
with enough meconium to last us a couple years - APOLLO:
- This must be some kind of conveyor belt
to get the ore from the mine here to the cracking plant here. - GAETA:
- A refinery this far from their home world?
- APOLLO:
- Why not? They need fuel as much as we do.
- GAETA:
- Now they've got it.
- TIGH:
- And enough firepower to keep it.
- APOLLO:
- All right, so we forget this asteroid; find another source.
- TIGH:
- You can bet your ass the Cylons will be guarding that one, too
- APOLLO:
- So we send the raptors out farther.
Ten, fifteen jumps, find a source they haven't reached yet. - TIGH:
- And use up all our fuel doing it.
How are we going to get our refinery ship-- - ADAMA:
- We take the meconium from the Cylons.
- ....
- TIGH:
- With all due respect, this is hardly a time to attack a superior force
- ADAMA:
- It's exactly the time.
We know where they are. They don't know where we are.
We'll catch them with their pants down.
Ok, I'm done now.
