Get a load of what REGEDT32 does when you click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Time Zones\Pacific Standard Time\TZI to invoke the binary editor

I originally figured I'd solve this problem by "moving" to Arizona for a few weeks, but with actual instructions for patching the registry for windows 2000 that someone helpfully provided, I figured ok I guess I can just do this. And then, I run the registry editor to check what I've done, and holy crap ...)



If you're not immediately seeing it, take a look at the second line and count the number of hex digits in it; it's not a multiple of 4. In fact, the entire line is OFF BY ONE, as in, not aligned with the header across the top of the Binary Editor window that tells you which hex digit is which due to the rows being one character too long. The binary display [0s-and-1s version] is similarly screwed up.

Great job, guys (I'm guessing these are the same geniuses that decided, starting with win2k, the Character Map tool should display in 20-character rows across instead of something useful like 16 or 32).

And I suppose it's better-than-even odds that they haven't fixed this for XP or Vista
